Experience Deception Pass

Deception Pass is one of my favorite places to visit in the great Northwest. Most people only visit it in the summer.  But Deception Pass in the foggy season is a sight you don’t want to miss. The tourist people have dubbed mid-fall through spring as the “mystery” season when the park shows off some attitude and a Pacific Northwest-style magnificence found nowhere else in the USA. Click here for a fabulous video of this unique site.
As background, Deception Pass is a strait separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island, in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Washington. It connects Skagit Bay, part of Puget Sound, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A pair of bridges known collectively as Deception Pass Bridge cross Deception Pass, and the bridges are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Deception Pass is Washington’s most-visited state park for a reason. Enigmatic coves, jagged cliffs, jaw-dropping sunsets and a vertigo inducing high bridge make this park a must for locals and international travelers alike.Park activities include fishing and swimming in Cranberry Lake. Explorers look for shells along miles of pristine Puget Sound beachfront. Hikers can ramble through forests and scramble up bluffs. Birdwatchers fill will find a plethora of things to note in their field guides. You may even see a whale or a family of seals as you survey the rough waters.
Don’t miss it.
